Tonight mostly cloudy with showers and a cool breezy evening. Saturday brings sunshine and a pleasant day with rising warmth. Sunday turns partly cloudy and warmer. It notes Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis faced hardship as widow of John F. Kennedy and mother of two after his death.
The week brings mixed results from the region. Jordan Elbridge voters defeat the school budget by 18 votes while budgets pass in Liverpool Lyncourt and North Syracuse. Julie Krone returns to race after a serious spill last summer and Scriba’s Nuclear Power Plant reports improved performance per NRC. Community General Hospital rolls out a fast track ER plan to speed care.
Joannes Fowler, 39, was found fatally stabbed in her kitchen at 27 Reed Parkway as their two daughters slept. Her husband Mark Fowler, 38, initially told deputies an intruder attacked him, later confessing to the killing seven hours after the 12:15 a.m. 911 call.
Richard P. Thibodeau of New Haven, 48, arrested on a felony kidnapping charge in the Heidi Allen case. At arraignment he said he did nothing wrong as Allen vanished on Easter near Route 104. A late morning store purchase was linked to the investigation and witness descriptions noted two men forcing a woman into a van.
Richard Thibodeau of Mexico was arrested on kidnapping charges for Heidi Allen. Friends including Bob Munger question the suspect, noting Thibodeau’s small size compared with Allen and suggesting investigators may have the wrong man. Allen was last seen at the D&W Convenience store.
Leigh Hunt, former Syracuse police chief ousted in 1990 in a power clash with Frank Sardino, won the party nomination for sheriff after leading Sardino in weighted committee voting. Hunt praised his 24 years in state police and rural patrol experience, while acknowledging his sons’ legal troubles may affect the race. Sardino congratulated Hunt and left open a possible September primary as the party seeks unity.
Howard Jenkins, a 31 year old promotional manager, briefly gained 34 million during a lunch break after NationsBank computer error credited 88 million to his account. He initially requested 4 million, displayed the funds to his girlfriend, then returned every penny that evening with his lawyer. Bank officials attributed the mistake to a computer error.
Vietnam and the United States agreed to establish representative offices in Hanoi and Washington marking a step toward normalizing relations after decades since the war. The offices will handle trade, business, tourism and cultural ties with MLA support. Vietnam now has a UN mission in New York headed by an ambassador.
