Researchers see gene modified cells as cancer hope
Washington experts reported early results from using gene altered lymphocytes to target tumors in cancer patients. Steven Rosenberg of NIH described seven patients treated with tumor infiltrating lymphocytes and interleukin 2, noting tumors shrank in two terminal cases while others remain under study. Critics cite partial success and potential severe side effects, yet Rosenberg says progress is in early stages and real expectations are needed.
