Upstate New York Car Crashes Claim Four More Lives

A spate of overnight crashes in upstate New York leaves four men dead and the 84 hour toll at twelve. Three men die when their car hits a utility pole near Sandy Pond Road northwest of Pulaski. another man dies after his car overturns on the New York State Thruway near Canastota. Names include Joseph Lisk Barker 41 of Fulton Fred Weaver 80 of Pulaski Charles Schreiner 47 of Pulaski and John R. Sebring 45 of Cheektowaga. Officials cite fractured skulls and internal injuries and note the crashes occurred as authorities responded to earlier fatalities.

Three Admit Two Deny in Drunk Driving Court

Charley Kelley pleaded not guilty to driving while intoxicated and driving without an operator's license with bail set at 1500 dollars, case set for June 11. Firefighters battled overnight a blaze 150 feet below central London in tunnels described as an Army transit shelter. Soldiers asleep in the former air raid shelter escaped safely as crews fought the flames through the labyrinth.

Jamestown Gunman Hunt Narrows to City West Area

An escaped convict James Carter thirty two and his companion John Dedrick twenty three were pursued by more than two hundred officers through Jamestown and nearby areas. Dedrick was killed when the stolen car crashed in the Boomertown oil and lumber yard. Detectives Earl Stafford and Patrick Whalen were bound in the back seat as the pursuit ended.

Sheraton Buys 19 Hotels in Major Expansion

Sheraton Corp of America announced the purchase of 19 hotels from Eugenie C. Eppley for over 30 million dollars and will lease three more under Eppley. The deal includes the 1,500 room William Penn in Pittsburgh and the 50 room Seelbach in Louisville. Sheraton will operate 22 hotels as the Eppley Division with headquarters in Omaha, effective May 31.
