Godzilla review decries weak character development
Critics fault the film for thin characters despite vast effects. Matthew Broderick and Tea Leoni are seen as mismatched leads while Jeff Goldblum and Hank Azaria fail to carry depth. The plot lags until MSG finale where the creature’s rampage peaks amid weak pacing and limited human engagement.

Godzilla film rehash fails to live up to hype
Reviewers say the big screen monster movie breaks little new ground. It borrows heavily from Jurassic Park and Emmerich's earlier works Stargate and Independence Day, using stereotypes for humor, while a French agent and a final hour deliver solid monster entertainment.

Godzilla heads to New York with a big appetite
The film stars Matthew Broderick Hank Azaria and Maria Pitlip in a PG 13 monster romp where a giant gray lizard runs amok through Manhattan. The Brooklyn Bridge showdown and battles in Madison Square Garden deliver big set pieces but the creature itself disappoints as a smoother more seamless design. Despite flaws it will likely rake in audience with 10 year olds and big summer crowds.
