Waterloo Iowa UP reports Iowa National Guard units moved into the Bath Packing Plant area at 4 18 AM to enforce a court injunction after a fatal shooting of a local union picket. Guardsmen cleared the area and drove off about 50 pickets at bayonet point as shouting customers looked on.

It kept a 10 cent minimum up to 10.3 miles with gradual increases to 14 cents for trips up to 4.5 miles and 25 cents per mile for longer runs. It also allowed elimination of reduced round trip tickets for trains under 200 miles replacing the current 100 mile rule.

The contest draws 77 entrants from 35 states with prizes totaling over 5 000 dollars. Gundersen a junior in business administration and Alpha Pi sorority member, was chosen by editors Dick Ward of Syracuse University Varieties and The Syracusan. Salutes to finalists begin June 11 with final winner announced late summer by judges John Robert Powers Tina Leser and Ed Sullivan.
