State data on unlawful incidents in New York high schools are questioned after The Post-Standard found numerous errors. Some Cayuga Madison Onondaga and Oswego districts show no incidents while Syracuse East Syracuse Minoa report hundreds. Officials acknowledge odd numbers and promise refinements.
Preliminary FBI data for 1998 show a 7 percent drop in violent crimes from 1997 with decreases across murder rape robbery and aggravated assault as well as property offenses including burglary larceny theft motor vehicle thefts and arson. Robberies fell 11 percent and vehicle thefts 10 percent from 1997 levels.
