City crossing guards near deal on benefits to stay on job
Syracuse negotiators reach a tentative plan with Mayor Roy Bernardi to subsidize part of health insurance costs for crossing guards who feared losing benefits. Guards would pay monthly premiums: singles 28 dollars, family plans 100 dollars, while the city covers the rest. Guards average 3,500 dollars annually, with the city paying about 2,500 dollars per worker. The plan awaits ratification by the 69 workers in a self insured system funded from general revenues.
