The Associated Press reports record highs across the West as a strong cold front drives severe thunderstorms from the Great Lakes to the Deep South. Forecasters warn of heat relief delaying into the Midwest while temperatures across the plains dip later.
The forecast shows record highs above 100 in southern California and western Arizona with hot conditions across the Desert Southwest. Scattered showers and strong to severe storms are expected in the western Great Basin, Great Lakes region, Tennessee and Lower Mississippi Valleys, and portions of the Southeast, while much of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic stay mostly sunny. Temperatures range from the 40s in the Rockies to the 100s in the Southwest, with a low of 17 in Idaho and a high near 99 in Bullhead City.
Fragmentary almanac style forecast for Onondaga Lake and Finger Lakes details small craft waves under two feet and variable winds. Contains garbled place names and numbers but indicates lake areas with light southerly to northeast winds and modest wave conditions.
