Construction Draws Labor From Massena Farms
In Massena the outlook for farm labor is poor as many workers seek construction jobs. The Warren Construction Company has begun on the Massena Raymondville road widening project and the Massena Winthrop highway will be resurfaced. The Massena elevated railroad is to finish this season, and Alcoa plans a new building. A $50,000 village street and sewer program exists, but labor and material shortages threaten completion. Returning veterans are reclaiming farm workers for better pay at the aluminum plant.
