Roth IRA conversions aid IRS makeover plan in Congress
Senate and House move to finance IRS restructuring with a plan by Senator Roth to let seniors convert traditional IRAs to Roth IRAs. The proposal would fund much of the overhaul, raise billions in 2005 2007, expand taxpayer rights, create a nine member board, grant new powers to the IRS commissioner and allow 40 high salary executives. Portman called the plan encouraging for quick resolution of differences while aiming to avoid budget rule conflicts.
