New York Court of Appeals ruled that police in a New York City assault case may use a videotape to identify assailants. It marks the first time the state’s top court addressed videotaped identification, with lawyer Charles Edmonson noted as an assailant identified by the tape.
In Albany the Assembly approved several bills totaling 175 billion for state operations and 53 million for capital projects. Negotiations on the full budget continue with Senate plans pending final agreement, while debates focus on sales tax expansion to services and various tax hikes to close a multibillion-dollar deficit.
