Three Mile Island epilogue critiques Nine Mile 1 safety

Ten years after the core partial meltdown at Three Mile Island NRC ordered dozens of safety upgrades for U S reactors. Neither Nine Mile 1 near Oswego nor Nine Mile 2 completed the mandated program. Of 112 licensed reactors, 88 have not yet made the modifications. The NRC drafted 149 required changes after the incident near Harrisburg Pennsylvania.

Protesters decry state budget cuts hit fire towers plan

In Auburn and across the state, more than 50 prison staff protested Gov. Cuomo’s budget cuts expected to slash forest fire towers. They warn only 6 of 31 towers will be staffed, risking inmate violence and unchecked wildfires in the Adirondacks and Catskills as drought strains resources.

Four firms bid to build Onondaga County trash incinerator

Four companies submitted bids Monday to construct a 110 million trash incinerator for Onondaga County. County Solid Waste Coordinator Lawless said bidders include major national firms with the financial backing to back trash incineration projects. The 990 ton per day plant would sit on 11 acres near Rock Cut Road and aims to open in 1892, with Ogden Martin Systems Foster Wheeler Ashland Oil and others named among bidders.
