Washington March 26 The War Production Board reported 395 dollar a year men on its rolls, up from February 10 after director Donald M. Nelson ordered terminations for substandard workers. Sidney J. Weinberg said 22 left but new industrial branches added jobs this month. About 250 dollar a year men were with the former OPM last November. In addition 140 people serve on the without compensation basis, with five WOC's departing since Feb. 10.
The W O C experts serving 30 day terms face reassignment and checks by a Senate committee led by Senator Truman. Nelson ordered that no dollar a year appointee may influence decisions affecting their own firms and set citizenship and income rules before reappointment.
New York dairy farmers in the six state milk shed are projected to share about $13,375,000 from the March milk pool. Metropolitan Milk Market Administrator N. J. Cladakis estimated a uniform price of $2.41 per hundredweight with an anticipated pool volume of 555,000,000 pounds, noting the March rate is 46 cents above March 1941 and 15 cents below February.
Washington discusses the WPB order curtailing razor and blade manufacture and its mixed signals on civilian and military shaving. Officials claim ample supply while warning of only one blade per shaver per week, raising questions for armed forces about regulation and discipline. The Navy allows beards or clean shave. Army policy remains unclear.
