A stubborn spring nor'easter lashed the mid Atlantic states and New England, flooding rivers and bringing fierce wind, rain and snow. The system centered off eastern New England moved into the northern Atlantic by evening, dumping up to 10 inches of snow in parts of New Hampshire Vermont and Maine while much of Massachusetts and Rhode Island faced 40 inches of rain.
