Onondaga Nation officials challenge the U S Census Bureau counts claiming the data misrepresent the territory. Census 2000 shows 1 473 residents on the Onondaga reserve with a total native population of 10 763. The tribe has boycotted the census for 40 years citing noncitizenship, lack of congressional representation, and rejection of federal funds.
Ida Aureli, 84, died after a fall at Van Duyn Home and Hospital. She bled internally after taking Coumadin, with the Onondaga Medical Examiner citing death from head injury. The state Health Department probes the incident as hospital staff and protocols are reviewed.
