The Beat Debuts Amid Homicide Style Debate
TV preview notes The Beat on Channel 43 stars Tom Fontana and Barry Levinson’s style clash with Homicide and Oz. Cast includes Mark Ruffalo and Derek Cecil. The episode centers on NYPD officers Zine Martinelli and Beatrice Howther Burns as they navigate a troubled, cynically toned Manhattan. Minor plot lines involve Liz and Mike’s engagement and a wary Beatrice medication plot. The piece also mentions a Hollywood costume documentary and various other evening programs.
