Bernardi favored for HUD post amid Senate confirmation

The White House announced President Bush intends to nominate Syracuse mayor Roy A. Bernardi to be assistant secretary for community development and planning at HUD. If confirmed, he would oversee about $8 billion annually. the role pays $122,400. Bernardi would resign as mayor after confirmation, with possible start between late April and June.
