Food-stamp cutoffs fall short of earlier projections
In Onondaga County, about 160 able-bodied, childless recipients lost food-stamp benefits at month end, far fewer than the 344 initially announced. Officials blamed errors in a state-provided list, noting 41 of the 200 remaining recipients entered the JobsPlus program, with 9 failing to appear again, and no disabilities found after hospital examinations.

Solvay merger delay sparks questions over police shift
Lawyers dispute the status of the Syracuse Solvay police merger as a judge’s stay argument leaves the Solvay officers in limbo. Solvay officials say officers were sworn in under the merger. civil service questions and a pending state Supreme Court review keep actions frozen. The case, argued before Justice Charles Major, centers on whether the Liverpool merger was overturned and if Solvay can proceed without a new referendum or order.
