Rebels Attack El Salvador Sugar Refinery in Midnight Assault

Leftist rebels in El Salvador attacked the nation’s principal sugar facility using bazookas and mortars, killing two soldiers and wounding 15. Officials cited a nationwide blackout from a guerrilla strike on the San Rafael Cerdos electrical substation as aiding the attack just after midnight.

Train derailment spills phenol near Hallsburg Texas

About 400 people evacuated after a Missouri and Pacific train derailed on Texas Route 6 spilling a large amount of phenol injuring at least three people. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. east of Waco, about 75 miles south of Dallas, forcing traffic detours in central Texas.

Onondaga County figures show a 13 percent rise in city black voter registrations, with six wards including Syracuse University’s 16th Ward adding over 1,600 new registrations. OPEC ministers near first oil price cut in 23 years
