Our Lady of Solace School in Syracuse East Side will shut at year end due to a 243000 operating gap after raising about 40000 in tuition. About 140 students across 1994 95 year faced closure as parish subsidies cover less than half costs. Parents express shock and concern over lack of advance notice.

Authorities investigate the shooting death of Joel Friedman, 47, found Saturday in a remote log cabin on Gardner Road, Martinsburg. Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Tabolt said Friedman died of multiple gunshot wounds, with the exact number unknown, and that he was unmarried with no children. A friend who lived five miles away discovered the body.
Former Mexican president Carlos Salinas de Goriari has left Mexico for exile in the United States, moving toward Boston after being asked to depart by the successor’s emissary Ernesto Zedillo. His elder brother Raul Salinas was jailed on murder charges, and Salinas criticized the Zedillo government while a two day hunger strike followed.
Detective Mark Fuhrman faces a surprise defense witness who may challenge his claim of never meeting Kathleen Bell, the woman alleging he used racial slurs in the 1980s. News reports say the witness will bolster Bell by stating Fuhrman denounced interracial couples and used a racial slur.
In Tampa Florida University Community Hospital confirms a respiratory technician removed the wrong patient’s ventilator leading to the death of 77 year old Leo Alfonso on March 3. Hospital officials say the worker should have verified identity by visual check speaking to the patient reading the chart and reading the ID bracelet. The 24 year employee has a clean record and was suspended pending investigation.
