Dr. Herbert Lourie, shot to death last week by a former patient, wrote to Armando Di Nolfi on January 17, 1986 urging the businessman to seek mental counseling. The letter indicates Lourie had suggested counseling more than a year earlier.
A man shot Dr Laurie, 57, chief neurosurgeon at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital, at his Salina residence while seeking the doctor last Thursday night. Mrs Betty Laurie, 58, was wounded in the forearm as the patient, Di Nolfi, described as receiving psychiatric care, fled. Investigators disclosed the suspect, connected to Onondaga Uniform Co, had been in psychiatric treatment and that the shooting remains under inquiry.
