President Truman will likely announce steps on the Greek crisis after briefing Congressional leaders on Monday. Acheson and British envoy Inverchapel discussed Crete problems at the State Department as Britain ends financial aid to Greece.
Police in Buenos Aires dispersed several hundred demonstrators after a speech by President Juan Peron condemning opposition papers. Demonstrators aimed rocks at the La Prensa offices last night.
The Weather Bureau forecasts partly cloudy skies with snow and flurries tonight and Sunday. Continued cold with a low around 24 and high near 35 degrees. Relative humidity 71 percent at 8:30 P.M. and 85 percent later today. Eastern New York outlook shows considerable cloudiness and cold, light snow near the coast late today and tonight. Sunday should be partly cloudy with little temperature change.
The United States refused to back a 10 to 12 member UN committee to study Palestine until Britain clarifies its stance. Britain seeks American involvement, but has not proposed procedures. Secretary General Lie floated a committee idea, then retreated as the U S balked.
County crews report by nightfall Friday that nearly all rural roads are open with only two or three left. A southern low moving along the Atlantic may bring snow flurries to Syracuse tonight and Sunday, cooler weather expected, while the Plainville Jacks Reef Lysander area remains the hardest hit in opening Sweet road near Pompey.

The government told John L. Lewis it will not push new soft coal contract negotiations while his March 31 strike threat stands, as the Supreme Court orders temp restraining action. Interior Secretary Krug said no talks with miners or owners until Lewis acts, with possible Congressional extension of power to seize mines beyond June 30. Attorney General Clark seeks immediate Supreme Court ruling to override the 25 day wait and force Lewis to drop the threat or face penalties and injunction.
Vienna reports 57 Nazi leaders arrested including a former SS general Walter Raffelsberger said living under an assumed name. Austrian Interior Ministry says the underground group conducted large black market operations and sought to recruit more Nazis. American troops aided Austrian police in the operation.
New York based report notes a slowdown in women's speech since wartime. Virginia Frese of the National Institute for Human Relations cites a chart showing women's rate around 160 words per minute versus men at about 150. She says the slowdown isn’t inherently bad but marks a shift in everyday communication.
Senate Republican Policy Committee meets to survey opinions on extending rent controls. Taft says a Monday night conference with all 51 Republicans will follow, with freshmen pressing for greater influence. Maritime Commission officials seized the papers of the motorship John Ericsen as part of an inquiry into a $1,500,000 harbor fire at the North River pier. The vessel, booked to sail with 412 passengers to Cobh Southampton and Le Havre, suffered heavy damage to the promenade deck crews quarters and writing room. The fire was the worst harbor blaze since the Normandy disaster.
In Asuncion seven people were killed by gunfire as Paraguay’s government crushed a brief armed revolt. The regime blamed communists and the Febrerista Party for attempting to topple President Higinio Morinigo and Interior Minister Victor Morinigo, with a strict curfew enforced overnight.
LaGuardia urged Congress to back a merger of all labor groups into a single American Congress of Labor. He proposed a congressional committee with labor and industry reps to study the plan and pending labor-law reforms. He argued a national parent body would benefit wage earners and stabilize industry.
