Reds Accept East-West Foreign Ministers Talks

A French foreign ministry spokesman in Paris said Moscow agreed to an East West foreign ministers meeting to set agenda for a planned summit. Washington and allies expect at least some topics to be discussed before any heads of state conference. The Kremlin had resisted earlier plans for a ministers session, but notes to Western powers indicate a limited purpose meeting in about two months.

Doctors say Eisenhower fully recovered from minor stroke

Presidents physicians at Walter Reed announced after a 70 minute neurological exam that Dwight D. Eisenhower is completely recovered from the November 1957 stroke with normal brain function and no central nervous system damage. The update follows prior heart attack care and a dental procedure before today's checkup.

Death trap bus disaster in Levisa Fork search underway

Boats reported locating a sunken school bus about five feet under the surface of the rain swollen Levisa Fork at Prestonsburg Kentucky. Army engineers float a barge as divers prepare to anchor and drag the bus out. Conflicting counts list 23 or 24 dead and 14 to 16 survivors. The National Safety Council calls it the worst highway accident involving children in U.S. history.

Seven Die in De Kalb Farmhouse Fire

A De Kalb Junction area farmhouse fire killed seven members of the Van Ornum family and left five others including Joyce Barden and a guest escaping. The blaze started around 4:30 am most likely from an overheated chimney in an upstairs bedroom. The dead include Lloyd Van Ornum 44 and Geneva 43 with children Lionel 7 Laurel 5 Fern 8 Carol 10 and Donald 18. James 19 and Jane 12 escaped from upstairs. James jumped from a second story window to safety. Jane’s escape method is unclear. The father had turned 44 the day before. he farmed locally and worked at McEwen Milling Co. The farm lies between DeKalb Junction and Ola DeKalb, about 10 miles southwest of Canton.

Myron Cohen, a 52 year old parolee and four time offender, escaped from Brooklyn City Prison after a guard called him by mistake. In New York City police booked Norberto Diaz aged 30 and Jose Bellido aged 42 on homicide charges as the death toll rose to 19 from a wood alcohol poisoning epidemic. Ferry Sinks in Marmara Sea Stranding Hundreds
