MVP Health seeks another rate hike after 24 percent rise
MVP Health Plan filed with the New York Insurance Department for a 14 percent increase to cover rising prescription drug costs. The Schenectady based HMO serves 68,800 Central New York members and faces higher drug costs driven by ads and new medications. If approved, monthly premiums would rise from 319.13 for prescription coverage to 331.27, and a family plan from 47.81 to 54.54. The request follows a 23 percent rise granted last year after a 53 percent request. MVP attributes increased costs to drug pricing, advertising influence, and rising utilization across its more than 400,000 members in 26 New York counties and Vermont.
