Elizabeth Libba Cotten, Grammy winning singer songwriter known for Freight Train, dies at 95 in Syracuse after brain seizures and surgery. She lived with daughter Lillie Ellis at 419 W Ostrander Ave and passed away at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital.
The Niagara Mohawk Power Corp asks the new Public Service Commission for a waiver to keep employee names and salaries above 50 000 confidential. The request follows a Herald American disclosure of 357 staff earning 50 000 or more from the 1984 annual report. The PSC meeting under Chairman Peter Bradford will decide if disclosure rules should be relaxed.
The jury found Billy guilty of murdering a deputy sheriff and wounding another during an escape attempt. Eyewitnesses described his leap as he listened to the judge, then a fatal fall followed later that day.
