Cazenovia Fourth of July Field Days canceled this year
Town leaders note no volunteers stepped forward to organize the Independence Day Field Days in Cazenovia, ending a 20 year tradition. After several years of downsized events and safety changes, residents reflect mixed feelings as a reduced weekend plan includes races and fireworks at Lorenzo State Historic Site. The event, previously run by a community group and later by the New Woodstock Fire Department, struggled with participation and profit concerns, amid remembrance of Sean Googin, killed near Gypsy Bay Park in 1992. Volunteers were absent this year, leaving the schedule to limited local efforts and the county booster club support.
