In Americus Georgia 82 year old Lillian Carter mother of former President Jimmy Carter was wheeled into Sumter County hospital after admission yesterday. A team of doctors performed a procedure to remove a small chest tumor and reported she was in good spirits before the operation began.
Laurence McKeown is 24 and serving a life term for attempted murder of a policeman and four bombings. He refuses to break fast as hunger strike continues. Joseph McDonnell, 30, who replaced Bobby Sands, is near death after 52 days without food. In Newfoundland a 220 foot railroad bridge spans fell into the Mississippi River near Keiths berg. Arson suspected. no injuries.
