Milk Order Effective Here Aug. 1
A state milk marketing order takes effect in Syracuse on Aug. 1. Milk producers in the area must notify the New York area administrator by tomorrow if they withdraw to join the Syracuse order. The referendum passed with more than the required 66 2/3 percent approval, though exact figures were not released. Prices to consumers may rise by about two cents per quart, while producer prices will be set under the order. The new order covers Onondaga County minus Spafford, Elbridge, and Jordan, the third region in the state to have milk sales regulated locally. Joint state and federal rules govern metro area marketing. Carey said prices to Syracuse producers were generally below cost, after a fair return.
