Flames destroy main lodge at Toggenburg Ski Center
The main lodge of Toggenburg Ski Center in Fabius was destroyed by fire early this morning. No injuries reported as the fire, starting shortly before 1 a.m., required several departments to fight it until about 3 a.m. Cause under investigation with officials noting the blaze appeared to originate in the middle of the building.

Panda cub dies at National Zoo crushing hopes for first US-bred giant panda
Ling-Ling the giant panda's four day old cub died just after midnight on Friday. Zookeepers recorded the cub's last squeals around 11:41 p.m. and Ling-Ling cradled it without sound as it lay motionless. Officials, including 700 Robert Hoage, mourn the loss and note the staff's long week of effort. Ling-Ling and Hsing-Hsing had been expected to produce the first US bred giant panda. The cub was removed from the enclosure after a late night within the zoo. Ling-Ling and Hsing-Hsing arrived in the United States as gifts from China in 1972.

Girlfriend charged in fatal stabbing outside Syracuse complex
A 17 year old girlfriend is charged with second degree murder after stabbing her 29 year old boyfriend Clyde Terry to death outside Shady Willow Estates in Syracuse. She was arrested at her parents home and held for arraignment. The knife used was a kitchen steak knife and witnesses placed the couple at the scene following an argument.
