Residents face blocked access in Clay Lawton Valley tract
Residents from the Lawton Valley Hunt Tract off Caughdeny Road petitioned the Clay Town Board on June 16 for action as a promised connector road from the Kelly & Tobin development to Lawton Road remains unbuilt. Authorities say the private, unpaved haul road used for construction and access could pose safety and liability concerns, with no town mechanism to compel completion.

Salina board dispute over bike patrol funds erupts
A Salina town board clash over using 1200 from town funds to buy a sheriff's bike patrol spur provoked charges of grandstanding. Don Cook led the newly formed Salina Friends group which raised about 1600 by Monday, while Supervisor Mary Ann Schadt questioned authority and process. The board withdrew the 1200 allocation as Cook defended a citizen group effort to support the sheriff's department without town taxes. The meeting also approved closing Raphael Avenue for the Civic Center block party.

Wrong first name on ballot vexes loser
Edward Robinson, a former village trustee, filed complaint after Lester Fischer appeared as his name on the ballot instead of Leslie. Fischer, who won 403 votes for two trustee seats, said the error stemmed from papers filed after his Republican nomination. Robinson seeks county election oversight and possible court action.
