Prison van escape ends in fatal guard shooting in West Palm Beach
Two armed men attacked guards from Glades Correctional Institution as an inmate was being taken to a doctor's appointment. A guard Fred Griffis, 43, was killed and Steve Turner, 20, was wounded. The suspects fled through downtown, fired on police cars, and crashed near Palm Beach International Airport. Valdes 24 and Van Poych 32 were captured. charges including first degree murder planned.
