More than 66 Million Americans Lacked Insurance
The Census Bureau reports that over 66 million Americans, about one in four, were uninsured for at least a month within a 28 month period from February 1992 to May 1994. About 2 million were uninsured for the full 28 months, and 34 million elderly on Medicare would worsen the share if excluded. Children under 18 comprised the largest uninsured group, with more than 1 million children uninsured for at least a month.
