Syria says a Cabinet decision on the US extradition request for Hamadi should come tonight as he faces charges tied to the TWA 847 hijacking. Hamadi was arrested January 13 at Frankfurt with liquid explosives. West Germany paused before other nationals were seized in Beirut.
South Korean President Chun Doo-hwan and opposition leaders agreed to meet at the presidential palace to discuss ending anti-government protests sweeping the country. Up to 20,000 radical students gathered at Yonsei University to coordinate efforts to oust Chun. Chun will meet Kim Young-cam of the main opposition party at the Blue House in Seoul on Wednesday.
Congressional Iran Contras panels press toward a formal agreement with Lt Col Oliver L Norths lawyers outlining ground rules for his testimony. Senate chair Daniel Inouye and House chair Lee Hamilton emphasized readiness to proceed with a sworn appearance next month amid questions of authorization for arms sales to Iran and aid to the Contra rebels. Brent Scowcroft commented Reagan supported the Contras but not day to day deliberations, while the committees prepare for hearings and call Glenn Robinette, a former CIA officer, to testify.
