Reports said 125000 gallons of gasoline and 326000 barrels of oil were loaded onto four Russian ships in Los Angeles with a fifth tanker to join. Rep Poulson and Sen Gurney called for restoring export controls on petroleum.
President Truman faces a decision on extending rent controls as the Senate passes a measure to extend the program through February 29 1948 with a 15 percent ceiling lift option if leases extend past December 31 1948. The bill also removes construction curbs except for recreational buildings prompting housing officials to warn of potential housing program damage amid material shortages. Chicago July corn futures jumped to 2.00 a bushel on the Board of Trade the highest price ever paid for a grain futures contract.
