New York Unemployment Checks To Jump Under Cuomo Plan
More than 100,000 jobless New Yorkers could see larger unemployment benefits under a Cuomo led agreement with lawmakers. The plan would raise the maximum weekly benefit from 125 to 170 starting Sept 5 and to 180 in 1984, boosting checks for about one third of the state’s roughly 330 000 current beneficiaries. The package also raises workers compensation and disability benefits and would lift New York state from 43rd to 21st in max weekly unemployment.
