Dean Edith H. Smith of Syracuse University highlights a shortage of practical nurses in Onondaga County. A county survey finds 325 licensed practical nurses, many inactive, with only 15 graduates from practical nurse schools. Last March eight hospitals reported a need for seven trained nurses, with demand expected to rise. the Nurses Registry cannot fill all home care calls.
