U S Eighth Army Plans Play Work for Koje POWs
The U S Eighth Army will disperse the large POW compounds on Koje Island into smaller units and start a work and play program after gaining control. Brig Gen Haydon L Boatner says the dispersal should finish in about a week. Lord Alexander and Gen Jamieson Vanfleet toured Compound 76 as over 6 090 prisoners resisted breakup. POW labor will be used for road construction and other projects with sports and recreational facilities added inside compounds. No relaxation of Peony in POWs is planned during this reorganization.
