Walkout at Bethlehem Steel Lackawanna Plant Cuts Production
A walkout of 185 workers at Bethlehem Steel's Lackawanna plant reduced bar steel output by about one third and sharply cut shell steel. Plant Manager Edward F. Entwisle said strikers of draft age are being reported to local draft boards and authorities. The strike, begun after two suspensions, is alleged to be a deliberate effort by the union to halt war production. Julian Brure of the United Steelworkers declined to comment.
