A GAO audit shows a nine month undetected computer error caused New York State to receive 10 million dollars in federal Medicaid payments for the elderly that should have been covered by city and state welfare programs. The mistake, likely starting in 1973, was corrected in August and reimbursements to the federal government have begun. No fraud indicated.
