Day long observances and special programs mark Children’s Day in several churches. Baptisms, choir numbers, Bible awards, and pins highlight activities under pastors Rev. De John T. Reeve, Rev. Gerald E. Boyce, and Rev. Samuel A. Fehi, with youth-led programs and family retreats at Green Lakes State Park.
Wesleyan Method ist Church of America plans a four day conference starting Tuesday at First Wesleyan Church. Attendees include leaders from four colleges and Rev Dr F B Birch reports on Caribbean missions amid reorganization of church administration into commissions and departments.
A special Estonian service is planned tomorrow at 3 PM at the Lutheran Church of the Atonement. Rev Theodore Zicaks and Rev John M will address the congregation about Estonian matters. Delegation from Estonian group chairman Treie will speak on the mission.
The Brotherhood of St. Andrew plans the first provincial conference of the Episcopal Church for this year at Matthius School in Manlius. Area organizers from New York and New Jersey promote the event led by Central New York planning official Aled Lewis. Rev Roswell O. Moore, Episcopal chaplain at Syracuse University, is expected to attend.
Syracuse churches plan multiple Father’s Day observances with services at First Raptet Church Willett Memorial United Methodist Calvary United Brethren and St Paul Lutherans. The programs include sermons by Rev Montgomery Rev Conley and Rev Ellerman, choirs and soloists, and special youth activities honoring fathers and families.
Rev James K Bennett pastor at St Matthew’s will mark an anniversary with a solemn Mass. Deacon John J Tierney and subdeacon Maynard A Connell assist. Bennett, a Gouverneur native, studied at St Bonaventure College and St Bernard’s Seminary before ordination. A reception follows the evening service.
The Rev Dr Elisworth Beamon marks 20 years as pastor of Betts Church this coming year. A parish supper is scheduled for 6 30 in the church social hall with Dr Keamon and his wife honored. Fred Chadwick chairman of the board of trustees will preside. Beamon, a St Lawrence graduate, previously worked as a newspaperman for the town Standard and later earned a doctor of divinity from Syracuse University.
John D MacInnes 507 of Buffalo to be ordained at LaForest Avenue Presbyterian Buffalo 20th. A Princeton Theological Seminary graduate he won the James Robinson prize in church catechism. He hails from a family of clergymen, grandfather Rev John MacTones longtime pastor in Syracuse, father executive of the Presbyterian Synod of New York State. His ordination will take place at the First Presbyterian Church Stamford on July 1.
A communion service for men will be held tomorrow at Grace Episcopal Church. The Rev. P. H. Parker will preside as celebrant with Morford, superintendent of the Hospital of the Good of Universe Shepherd, noted as a layman participant.
The ANMVAL family picnic of Calvary Baptist Church will be held next Saturday at Pratt Falls Park starting at 1 PM Mrs George MM Cook, chairman, urges all persons not having transportation to be at the church at 1 PM.
The Rev Nicholas Titus of Easkwood Baptist Church urges churchgoers to act on what they have not what they lack. He cites a woman anointing Jesus to show that God honors doing what is within one’s means. He stresses dedication through small deeds like writing a letter or contributing what one can.
J W Dexter Wilson, longtime church school superintendent at DeWitt Church, retires after 26 years. A Syracuse native and alumni of Syracuse University, he has served in church leadership roles including chairman of the Presiding Bishop's Committee on Larman's Work and vice president of the Syracuse Council of Churches. His service included wartime captaincy and ongoing involvement in education, religion, and community activities. a farewell event will be held during the Children's Day service.
