Latino social workers urged as county seeks bilingual aid
Records show 552 of 27,947 aid recipients were Hispanic last month. Sam Velazquez of the Spanish Action League supports expanding Spanish outreach and placing an outreach worker at the league. Deputy Commissioner Dorothy Marge notes more Spanish speaking staff exist but few are caseworkers. Juan Rodriguez and Maria Bequer call for more qualified Latino staff to reduce misinterpretation and better serve clients. To be a caseworker, candidates need a four year degree and Civil Service requirements.

Burglaries Reported in Onondaga County and Drug Charges
Burglaries were reported to Onondaga County sheriff's deputies from multiple locations including Old Cove Road Salina and Ostrom Avenue Syracuse with thefts totaling hundreds of dollars. Separately Elmina Vincent and Jay Coatello were charged at 10 25 pm March 8 on Chapel Drive Camillus with fifth degree criminal possession of marijuana.

In Onondaga County Supreme Court and District Attorney records, May 31 and May 29 pleadings led to guilty pleas and prison or probation terms. Troy Price received one to nine years for attempted first degree robbery and stolen property possession. Danial Bianchi got five years probation plus discharges and a $500 fine for drugs impaired driving and unlicensed operation. Keith Bjorkstron, William Palmiasno, and Fred Adkins received various sentences including terms in the county facility and prison after pleading guilty to burglary, forgery, robbery, and stolen property charges.
