Local Education Board Leaders and City Council Members
In its sixth year, the Board of Education faces leadership from Gottschalk nearing the end of his term as education commissioner. Simmons, Fourth District councilman elected in 1945, coaches boxing and lacrosse at Syracuse University and assists football. Van Dusen, former 18th Ward supervisor, named councilman in charge in 1950 and won the unsuspired term by over 9,000 votes last year. Bixby and Tomb are new district councilmen. County Chairman Traister may nominate delegates to the Fifth Judicial District Convention and select committees to fill vacancies as Justice Kingley’s term expires this year.
