Forecasters expect dry air tonight with clouds breaking for sun tomorrow. Expect variable sky with periods of sun and clouds. Scattered showers and possible thunderstorms later in the week. Warmer conditions likely as the week progresses.
Storms rumble from the northern Plains to the Gulf Coast while tornadoes may develop from Kansas to North Dakota. Early today northeast sites were cloudy with drizzle as rain and strong showers grew from the Plains to the Southeast, with high pressure promising drier weather in parts of the Southeast though isolated storms linger across the Tennessee Valley, Gulf Coast and Florida.
An active weather pattern spans the nation from Kansas to Minnesota and North Dakota with wind, hail, and isolated tornadoes. Tropical moisture drenches Texas to southern Missouri as thunderstorms and flash floods hit Texas. A line of strong storms sweeps New York to New England. Extreme heat peaks in Death Valley with 108 degrees while temperatures rise into the 90s and 100s across the Plains and coastal areas. The Pacific Northwest sees showers, with flight and travel impacts noted across multiple regions.
The forecast notes southeast winds around 14 knots with waves about a foot on the lakes and higher seas reaching 12 feet at some points. We forecast lighter conditions on nearby lakes with southeast winds 7 to 14 knots and waves under 3 feet.
