The French Press Agency quoted a Madrid dispatch stating civil guards clashed with armed groups of the Opposition near Columbriano in northwest Spain. Three civil guards and six members of the anti Franco group were killed.
Allied forces led by Australians and General MacArthur launched a coordinated attack on Labuan and Brunei Bay. Australian cavalry landed to suppress Japanese mortars near Tambalai airstrip while engineers prepared the Labuan aerodrome. Brunei Bay, a strategic anchorage aiding Singapore transit, drew major Allied attention as Ninth Division units advanced from Brooketon toward Brunei. Casualties appeared minimal with two killed by accident and one Australian wounded inland, while senior commanders reached shore within two hours of the landings.
