Smithsonian weighs a black heritage museum on the Mall
Claudine Brown leads a Smithsonian inquiry into a possible National Museum of African American History and Culture on the Mall. Letters pour in as debates rise about location aims and funding, with Congress proposing a 200 million dollar construction drive and a national trust. Brown, a Brooklyn Museum veteran, chairs a 22 member advisory panel to study feasibility with a year end report.
