Crash on Route 5 Kills Two In Madison County

A head-on collision on Route 5 near Harsh Road east of Chittenango at 6:15 a.m. killed Martin Brickner, 32, of Clockville, and another Chittenango man. Barbara Wiemeier, a Clockville resident, survived. Police have not released the second victim’s identity.

Nation hit by strongest midwestern quake in 19 years

A 5.0 quake centered near Lawrenceville Illinois rattled 16 states and parts of Canada, cracking a bell tower and triggering an alarm at a Minnesota plant. It sent hundreds fleeing swaying buildings up to 700 miles away with minor injuries reported, including an 18 month old girl.

Lightning strikes spark three rockets launch at Wallops

NASA probes bizarre Wallops Island incident where a lightning strike unintentionally launched three small rockets used in a lightning study. No injuries, under $50,000 in losses, while satellites suffered outages for hours. The Orion 16 foot rocket and two 4 foot test vehicles were on pad when storm triggered launch.

Reagan predicts arms deal at Venice news conference
