Chavez Wing Faces Purge In New Mexico Democratic Party
Supporters of John Miles in the Democratic bid for governor moved to seize party leadership in New Mexico. Miles campaign manager Ray Rodgers was set to become state party chairman as Bryan Johnson of Albuquerque resigned. Chavez allies in the Mabry administration faced a shakeup amid protests over Washington influence in the governor race. Chavez trailed Miles by about 9,000 votes in the primary as other local leaders eyed changes. A separate items notes the fishing boat Dairyo Maru ran aground off Fukae Island after striking a reef, prompting distress signals.
