Fresh Fruit Ceilings- Not Needed

The New York State Farm Bureau Federation urged immediate termination of Office of Price Administration controls on eggs poultry and fresh fruits and vegetables to avoid black markets and supply shortages. President Warren W Hawley argued ceilings on fresh fruits and vegetables are impractical and that continuing controls discourages production and harms consumers. He noted a nationwide feed shortage worsened by OPA pricing, reducing corn availability for poultry and dairy rations and raising export prices for grains. The letter warns that continued OPA controls could escalate market confusion and drive poultry sales into black markets.
