Parish priest receives television set on anniversary
The Rev. Martin J. Watley of Our Lady of Lourdes parish Syracuse received a new television set at a parish anniversary reception marking his ordination. The Holy Name Society and other groups funded the gift as Watley began his 33rd year directing the Catholic Hour on WSYR after serving in Utica Cortland and Syracuse.

Three Syracuse Girls Rescued After Canoe Overturns
A party of Syracuse schoolgirls nearly drown when their canoe capsized in choppy Oneida Lake near the Syracuse Yacht and Country Club. William During Jr of Preston Castings Co. saved the girls by diving for Janet Perkins and guiding them to a cruiser, while Mary Maher and Joan Leonard clung to the overturned craft awaiting rescue.

Police investigate an overnight burglary at the Cafeteria Bar on Park Avenue. Seven cases of beer, two cases of whisky and $50 were stolen. Proprieter Anthony Julliani reported the entry to Patrolman Frank Weber. Detectives Frank and Michael Corbett are investigating.
