Patrolman Michael Garvey reported hearing a window crash at 4:15 AM and rushing to the Gutchess Jewelry store on West Manlius Street in East Syracuse. He fired two shots at a fleeing burglar, who escaped without taking any goods.

In Massillon Ohio police report two nine week old Rosemary Morton and Diane Brand were battered to death in City Hospital pediatrics nursery Friday night. The Brand infant had recent surgery. both victims were occupants of the nursery when attacked between 7 35 and 7 45 PM. Nurse Marian Silleck found the bodies as visiting restrictions were in effect. Stark County coroner Dr Edward Reno cited blunt force injuries. Police Chief Stanley Switter headed the investigation with Prosecutor Deane MacLaughlan noting no hospital laxness.
